In July 2023, I read in the StarNews (support local journalism people!) that a new bakery was opening at 1011 N 4th St. in the Brooklyn Arts District. A what?
New in town, I had to google the address. I drove by the building that night. On a window of the corner unit of the building on the northwest corner of Davis St.— which is a block long — and N 4th, I saw the logo you see above, on Phillip’s shirt.
Only open on the weekends.
I went back on Saturday and bought a blueberry biscuit immortalized in this Instagram post.
That morning I met Phillip, his mom and his sister. I knew I wanted his story in the first issue of Edible Port City. It turned out to be the bakery’s first feature.
The rest is history. The bakery is an extreme success. His Instagram is off the charts. He is a very talented baker, so much fun and a really nice person. Who loves Beyoncé.
I even interviewed his high school home ec teacher.
He’s also gave us a recipe for pear chai muffins.
